What are the validation rounds in TON staking?

The validation process in Proof-of-Stake is divided into rounds.

Each round consists of:

  • Election — 9 hours. Elector contract chooses validators to participate in the current round.
  • Validation — 18 hours. Validators process transactions and blocks and receive rewards.
  • Hold — 9 hours. The network temporarily holds stakes and rewards to slash if needed, then releases them to validators.

Validation rounds start in parallel to each other during the Hold period. TON validators are changing constantly every two cycles to ensure proper decentralization.
